How to maintain a healthy beauty routine whilst staying active
A couple of months ago, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a relaxing Jurlique Spa Facial at the Macquarie Centre branch courtesy of Invisible Thread PR. Boy, was it an hour plus of pure bliss and relaxation and I learnt a whole lot more about my skin thanks to the lovely beauty therapist, Gloria!
Jurlique has been my favourite skin care brand for quite a while now as they are one of the very few brands that my skin does not react to (my skin is extremely sensitive and even reacted to facials using Aveda products!!!) and they are au naturale of course! At least 90% of my skincare routine consists of Jurlique products. #obsession much?
Anyhoos, back to my spa facial and Gloria - right!
Gloria kindly allowed me to pick her beauty therapist brain and knowledge to share some tips with you active chicas on how to maintain a healthy beauty routine whilst #activeliving!
1) Tell us a little about yourself
I am a qualified Beauty Therapist. I have been working as a Beauty Therapist with Jurlique for around three years.
2) What are your best beauty tips for active girls? (Think lotsa sweat?)
Cleanse skin pre workout: Many girls forget this step but it is essential! Makeup and sweat can easily clog pores during a workout. By cleansing and removing any pore-clogging irritants, you will reduce the chance of breakouts and allow your skin to breathe!
(Editor's note: I cannot stress enough how important this step is! It is NOT a cute look when you see layers of foundation or even mascara melting off your face whilst you're doing reps! ALWAYS carry facial wipes in your gym bag! This is non negotiable ladies!)
Apply light-weight moisturiser: You lose a lot of water due to evaporation and sweating during a workout, so the skin can become dehydrated. Using a light-weight moisturiser helps to restore the moisture levels and retain hydration where it’s needed. Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Revitalising Gel-Lotion is a light silky water-gel emulsion to hydrate skin while it helps to cool and protect.
Cleanse skin post workout: Not only do we sweat, which is a natural bodily mechanism to remove toxins, we also wipe our face with our hands or a gym towel during a Workout and this can leave oil and dirt on our skin. It’s important to cleanse skin after a workout to avoid any irritation, breakouts and clogging. Keep your hair out of your face: hair oil and greases can cause breakouts, especially under the fringe and along the hairline so pull hair back out of your face when you workout.

Hydrate and cool your skin: After a good session of sweating it’s important to quench your thirsty skin. 3) Do you think there are great benefits to hit the sauna room after a great workout?

5) As we are approaching the colder months, how do girls ensure their skin stay moisturised and healthy?
As the temperature drops skin tends to become dry, red, flaky and blotchy. Low humidity, wind and indoor heating can dehydrate your skin as moisture evaporates.
TIPS/recommendation:Applying a serum day and night before moisturiser will plump dehydrated skin and allows your moisturiser to penetrate deeper into your skin. This results in hydrated and supple skin. 6) For our outdoor girls, what are your advice for them pre and post workout?
Many girls forget to cleanse skin pre-workout! Makeup and sweat is the first step towards clogged skin. Washing off any pore-clogging makeup will reduce breakouts and blackheads and allow your skin to breath!

Thanks for such a detailed tips to help us get through the harsh weather this winter whilst working on our summer bodies Gloria! One last tip that I pick up during my facial was - do not wash your face through running shower as it will break the capillaries on your cheeks! It's so hard to resist especially after a long day or when I am having rashes or some allergies on my face. Who else is guilty of this too? I am getting better at that with constant mental note not to do it! Baby steps, people!
